A dream journal
is an essential part of dream interpretation, and the choice
of dream journal is largely dependent upon your style of dream
interpretation. Given that dream analysis can be time consuming
and your journal is likely to remain with you for a long time, it makes
sense to give consideration to the following:
Your style of journal entries
Your style of journal entry plays the largest role in choosing your
journal. For example, you may prefer to analyze your dreams from drawings
rather than text. In such a case, a hard cover, wire-bound book with
paper that facilitates easy drawing is likely to serve you best. Equally,
if your journal entries are purely text-based, a computerised journal
may be your best bet.
Location
Consider where you're most likely to journalise your dreams e.g. if
your location of choice is the beach, perhaps you need to consider a
format that has a rigid, durable cover. Equally, if you are desk bound
for most of your day, perhaps it's worth investing in journal software
instead.
Size
The size of the journal will largely be goverened by location e.g. if
you're constantly on the move, a pocket-sized version is probably the
most practical.
Durability
Given that your journal is a workbook and is likely to be well-thumbed,
choose a design that can withstand frequent use.
Time
Journalising dreams can be a lengthy and time-consuming process. Therefore
the amount of time available for journalising is a major consideration.
Most people are able to type faster than they write, in which case a
computerised journal could prove to be a major time saver.
Whatever format you choose, make sure that it's practical. Even if you
need to try out several formats until you find the one that suits you
best, the effort is worth it - it would be sad to let an impractical
choice prevent you from exploring your deep inner realms.
